South London SEN School

The Practice was approached by a SEN School in South London to undertake a feasibility study for new facilities that would offer support and education for young adults with profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex medical needs.  As part of this the school wants to upgrade their aqua-therapy facilities and a new pool is required.

Our approach is to provide a double height space connecting the existing school and the proposed extension bringing in light that diffuses through the space, minimising reflective surfaces and creating good lines of sight.

All facilities for the young adults would be positioned at ground floor to keep a direct connection with the school with staffing areas at first floor.  The young adult facility would be located to the rear adjacent to the sensory gardens to give a connection with nature.
