Shropshire SEN School

We were asked by the client to provide designs for a multiple phase regeneration of a SEN school site in Shropshire. The phases included the provision of a new administration building, provision of a new drama and teaching block, renovation of the existing sports hall façade and updating the landscaping to provide outdoor teaching spaces.

We achieved planning permission for all of the phases and worked closely with the client to ensure their needs were met.

Currently Phase 1 has been completed and we have provided a stunning contemporary administration building for the staff of the school. Large windows provide distant views of the surrounding countryside whilst creating naturally lit work stations ensuring staff have a high quality working environment.

The double height curtain glazed entrance area welcomes visitors to the school which will help the client to impress potential students and their parents.

The projecting first floor box is a visually striking feature when entering the school grounds and maximises the space available along the narrow entrance road.

The materials palette takes inspiration from the older buildings on the school site and introduces new materials which complement the existing school campus. The scheme is naturally ventilated throughout and large roof overhangs provide solar shading in the summer.

This contemporary design provides the client with a new landmark facility which will enhance the staff’s working environment and provide a welcoming entrance to the site.
