Planning Permission Granted for Thurston Extra Scheme

We are delighted to hear that our 54-unit Extra Care scheme for Housing 21 in Thurston has been granted planning permission.

The scheme will provide 40 apartments and 14 bungalows built to modern standards in line with HAPPI guidelines and Dementia Guidance to accommodate a proportion of residents with dementia.  The development will also provide both residents and the local community with an on-site cafe/bistro, hair salon and communal lounge.

A landscape-led approach has been taken following a detailed analysis of the site and local area by our design team and the result is a design shaped around a series of open courtyard gardens providing amenity space.  The arrangement maximises the views towards the green spaces surrounding the site, whilst minimising the impact on views towards the site.  All trees have been reclaimed and biodiversity on the site will be enhanced through increased plantings and creation of new habitats.

The team worked closely with Babergh & Mid Suffolk District Council, Thurston Parish Council and Thurston in Need Charity to ensure the design met the various planning policies and requirements of the local area.

The granting of planning is great news for the local community and we look forward to working with Housing 21 through the construction stage to see completion of the scheme.
