Archer Road

We successfully won a competition run by Stevenage Borough Council for their Archer Road Neighbourhood Centre regeneration project following a joint submission made with Bouygues UK.  Archer Road comprises of 13 new 2-storey affordable houses, 17 apartments in two separate 3-storey blocks and new retail premises for the existing pharmacy and convenience store.  The scheme features a ‘home zone’ creating a safe, inviting shared space for residents.

The innovative L-shape houses are dual aspect enabling the residents to embrace both their private garden and the enclosed public space within the ‘home zone’.  All flats have balconies so that each resident has some outdoor space overlooking either the green space to the north of the site or the ‘home zone’.  The houses have articulated buff brick facades, coloured front doors, individual parking on the ‘home zone’ side and bike spaces within private gardens, all designed to give the residents a sense of living in a ‘home within a home’.  The new residences comply with Secured by Design, Code for Sustainable Homes and Lifetime Homes standards.

By considering the public and private spaces as fully interdependent, the scheme will not only provide new residents with an attractive and tranquil living environment, but will also enhance the general public usability of the area.
